Andersonville

Andersonville is located on the north side of Chicago, close to Edgewater and relatively close to Chicago downtown. Originally housing a small community of Swedish immigrants it has grown as one of the most diverse neighborhoods of Chicago. However, it still remains one of the most representative areas for the Swedish culture in the United States.

An old Swedish tradition of celebrating the summer solstice has been preserved in Andersonville and has brought a new landmark, the Midsommarfest, today one of the most popular and vibrant street festivals in Chicago.

The area hosts a growing number of young families with children that make it even more cheerful and lively. Starting from Clark Street corner and Berwyn Ave you can experience an interesting and diverse commercial district, which includes shops, taverns, a large collection of Middle Eastern bakeries, restaurants and delicatessen, chocolatier corner that make the heart of Andersonville commercial district very fancy. The Hispanic commercial area north of Catalpa Ave has also grown into one of the very attractive shopping places in the region.
