Bucktown


Bucktown is 10 minutes from Chicago’s Loop. During the past decade, Bucktown was transformed in to an upscale, trendy and artsy neighborhood. The real estate is primarily cottages decked with skylights, converted lofts, new condos, brownstones, two- and three- flats, and occasionally you will find a mansion.

 

Bucktown, which got its name from the large number of goats that were once raised in the area during the 19th century, is located in the Logan Square area of Chicago and northwest of the Loop. Bucktown boundaries are the Chicago River to the east, Western Avenue to the west, the above-grade Bloomingdale Line to the south and West Fullerton Avenue to the north.

 

Bucktown is a great residential neighborhood where you will find older single family homes, new construction and converted industrial lofts.  For art enthusiasts, Bucktown is also home to many art galleries and has several annual art festivals which attract many visitors every year. Damen Avenue, which runs through the center of Bucktown, is predominately the neighborhood's commercial corridor. You will also find small boutiques, trendy restaurants and friendly neighborhood bars line along Damen Avenue from northern Fullerton Avenue border to North Avenue on the south ending Milwaukee/North and Damen intersections.

Bucktown Arts Fest features local artisans, craftspeople and also musicians and poets. It celebrates the spirit of the Bucktown art community. Housing prices in Bucktown in the last few decades have risen. The character of the neighborhood has changed from bohemian working class to upwardly mobile. The old architecture is now mixed with contemporary new housing, but the neighborhood still has kept much of its old world charm.

Transportation

 

Bucktown is easily accessible by car and the CTA. The highway runs along the neighborhood’s north and east borders and connects to the downtown Chicago area. The CTA Blue Line Damen stops at Milwaukee/North and Damen, the heart of Bucktown. This neighborhood is also easily accessible by both the Fullerton and North Avenue buses that run along Bucktown's north and southern borders as well as the Western and Ashland buses, which operate along Bucktown's western and eastern borders.
