River North

River North is a neighborhood in the near north side community and encompasses Chicago Avenue on the North, north of the Chicago Loop, the Chicago River on the West, The Chicago River on the South and East State Street. 

Today, River North is an urban neighborhood filled with art galleries, production companies, photography studios and interior design businesses, as well as some of Chicago's most famous architecture.  The Wrigley Building and Trump Hotel are located here.  The River North area is referred to as the Chicago SoHo.

You will find a high concentration of restaurants, entertainment and art galleries.  River North is considered Chicago's fastest growing cosmopolitan residential neighborhood.  It's a favorite spot on weekends for locals and visitors.

Local Attractions

The University of Illinois Campus is located west of the Chicago River.  The River North Gallery District is the most concentrated art gallery district outside of Manhattan.  Most of the galleries can be found in converted brick warehouses found along either side of the El Brown Line.  Huron and Superior streets are worth checking out. The Merchandise Mart and the Apparel Center are located here as well.

The River North community is demographically comprised in the Near North Side community which also includes: Cabrini Green, Gold Coast, Magnificent Mile, Old Town, River East, River North, Sandburg Village, Streeterville.

River North Real Estate

Many professionals choose River North because of its close proximity to the Chicago Loop. You will find a variety of townhouses, mid-rise town homes, mid- condos and upscale converted lofts that were once warehouses.

A landmark building is Marina City often referred to as the Corncob Towers for its 60-story unique design.  The towers include shops, a fitness center, a swimming pool, a skating rink, a marina and even a bowling alley.  There are many residential developments in the area.  River North is close to Chicago's financial district, Michigan Avenue shops and many of the city's best restaurants.

According to data released by the Illinois Association of Realtors for the City of Chicago January 2009 total home sales (single-family and condominiums) were down 23.5 percent to 888 sales compared to January 2008 sales of 1,161. Restaurants

River North is filled with over 100 trendy restaurants and dance clubs. You can find all types of food including American, Brazilian, Chinese, French, Indian, Japanese, Mediterranean, Spanish, Thai and even vegetarian.  Some of these are one of a kind restaurants that are native to Chicago, such as the Rockbottom Brewery, Ben Pao, Klay Oven (a South Indian restaurant), Chicago's own Harry Caray's Restaurant and House of Blues. You will also find such restaurants as the Rainforest Café, Hard Rock Café and Ed Debevic's. Greektown and Little Italy are also nearby.
